Thursday Night ‘Beat the Clock’ Tournament

Friday April 11th, 2024

4PM Doors Open
6PM Tournament Starts
No Cash Prizes, only trophies and IFPA points

This is a separate tournament and not part of the GLPO registration or fees. It has its own registration and a $25 fee (paid at event not in advance) for the night.

Sign up here: https://district82.com/event/beat-the-clock-tournament-glpo-2024/

This is a 1 day tournament that will not be combined with anything else and there are no finals or side tournament. You do not have to be part of the GLPO to play in this one event but you do need to register for it.
This is going to be group match play style with swiss style pairings. The difference here is that we are going to play only the EM and earlier (1985 & older) solid state pins. These are all the faster playing games at District 82. Plus, this tournament is going to be based on time and not rounds of play. We will start promptly at 6PM and continue until 11PM. You need to be at District 82 by 5:45PM to check in. Whatever round we are on when 11PM comes we will finish that round and that is the end of the tournament. I would guess we will get in between 11-13 rounds of play. Full details at the registration link above.

GLPO Event 1: Target Match Play Qualify 30 Points 3/2/1/0 scoring & Top 24 Finals

Friday April 12th, 2024

8AM Doors Open for practice and check in
9AM Tournament Starts

Qualify

$40 Prize Pool per player, 100% gets paid out as prize money for top 24

Tournament will use all 100+ Pinball Machines inside District 82 Pinball. Each round will alternate the era of game played on. Odd Rounds will be LCD/DMD games Even Rounds will be Classics/EM games. The matchplay software will pick the games played and matches the players up in groups.

This is a Group Match Play Tournament, random seeding to start with Swiss pairings and 4 players (3 if necessary) in each group. Scoring is based on player performance for that one machine (3/2/1/0) or (3/1.5/0). This will be added to a running total for the tournament. The first player to reach 30 points will be top seed for finals and then qualifying is over. If multiple players reach the target score on the same round the player with the higher total is top seed. If they are tied a randomly drawn game will be selected for tie breaker. Automatic Tiebreakers (if available in Match Play Software) will be turned on and will supersede any tie other than a tie for 1st, 8th or 24th position. Only ties for 1st, 8th & 24th position will be broken with a 1 game tie breaker for the affected players. Those will have a 1 GAME tiebreaker and will be significant in determining Byes and/or Game Choice Selection in finals. The 8th Spot is significant as you get a BYE in first round or if you do not get a BYE but finish 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th you will get game pick in the 1st round of finals. To be clear is a tiebreaker is played for 8th spot, it will result in people placing 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th we will use this tiebreaker game to seed the final. This is based on the Tiebreaker game if it were necessary for top 8 determination only. (If there is not a tie at 8th but say a tie at 12th we will not do a tiebreaker to determine who would get game choice in the first round of playoffs. We would just use automatic tiebreakers in that instance.) The 24th spot will be significant because anyone who does not make it into the top 24 will be 25th, 26th, 27th, etc position in the overall tournaments based on the result of the 1 game tiebreaker.

Finals

Friday April 12th, 2024

6PM Start Time

No practicing on the finals games once the qualifying is over. Game Rows that will be used will be determined by the tournament director before the finals begin.

Top 24 Players from the Main Event Qualifying will play in the Finals. If someone doesn’t show up for round 1 the 25th ranked person (or next highest available person) from qualifying can take their place. If a player fails to show up for round 2 or later rounds we continue as if they are still in the tournament and give them 0 points for matches they miss. The format will consist of 4 rounds of 3 game banks. Top 8 qualifiers get a 1st round bye. Groupings for first round will be (9th, 16th, 17th, 24th), (10th, 15th, 18th, 23rd), (11th, 14th, 19th, 22nd), (12th, 13th, 20th, 21st) Games will be played one at a time.
New for D82 – Build Your Own Bank finals
High Seeds will be given 2 lists of games. The 2 lists will be Classics and Modern Games in the Rows that are set aside just for the finals. These lists will be presented at finals and not in advance. They are to choose 3 games in total but at least 1 game must be a modern and 1 must be a classic. You cannot pick all 3 Modern or all 3 Classics for your bank. The order in which the 3 games are played will be either Modern/Classic/Modern or Classic/Modern/Classic and that choice will be given to the person that chose the bank games. They can choose to defer game selection choice to next higher seed as well. Once a game has been chosen it cannot be chosen by any other group that round. We will have 12 different games played in rounds 1 & 2. Once a player has chosen a game they cannot choose that game again for the duration of finals. Assuming they pick the 3 games the 2nd highest seed in group will have order choice first, then the 3rd highest seed gets order choice, then last seed gets 3rd choice, with the final order selection going to the player who chose the games.  On subsequent games the order choice goes with 4th place finisher on previous game getting to pick first, then 3rd place picks next, etc. Scoring will be 4/2/1/0 for each of the 3 games. Top 2 advance bottom 2 are eliminated. Should there be a tie for 2nd/3rd place a 1 GAME playoff will be played by the 2 affected players. That game choice will be given to the higher of the 2 seeds with the other player given order choice. The higher seed can choose any game off of the 3 lists, except, they cannot choose any of the games used that round by any group or any game that person may have chosen on previous rounds.

The 8 Eliminated players from 1st round will finish 17th-24th according to how many points they accumulated in this round. Ties will not be broken.

In the Quarterfinal Round, the players advancing from the previous round will be reseeded according to their original ranks and divided into four groups as follows.

16 Players

Group 1:  1   8    9   16
Group 2:  2   7   10  15
Group 3:  3   6   11  14
Group 4:  4   5   12  13

The 8 eliminated players will be ranked 9th-16th according to the accumulated points in this round. Ties will not be broken.

For the Semifinal Round, the 8 players advancing will be divided into two groups of four. The groups will be organized according to the original qualifying rank as shown here:

8 Players

Group 1:   1   4   5   8
Group 2:   2   3   6   7

The 4 eliminated players from this round will be ranked from 5th-8th based on the accumulated points from this round. Ties will not be broken.

The four remaining players advance to the final round. The final round is conducted in the same manner as the Semifinal Round. The total scores for this round will determine the ordering of the winners. All ties in the final round are considered significant and will be broken with a 1 game playoff. The final reporting of points to IFPA will show 1st-4th place with no ties.

This Knockout Tournament is an 8 Strike Classics Tournament played in groups of 4 (3 when necessary).

GLPO Event 3: GLPO Certified Main Event Qualifying

Saturday April 13th, 2024

Certified format (25% boost) or Certified+ format (50%) boost with 128 or more players

8AM Doors Open Practice
9AM Tournament Starts

$60 Prize Pool per player, 100% gets paid out as prize money to top 24 after finals on Sunday

Tournament will use all 100+ Pinball Machines inside District 82 Pinball. Each Bank will consist of 1 Modern Game (roughly 1992 & newer) and 1 classic game (roughly 1985 & older).

The Group Match Play Qualifier will be played in groups of 4 (3 when necessary).
Random Seeding to start, Rotating Order, then Tiered Swiss Style Pairings thereafter. If Tiered Swiss not available then Swiss will be used.
MatchPlay Software will most likely be used for the tournaments.
Each Round will consist of a 2 game banks consisting of 1 Modern and 1 Classic
10 Rounds in Total, 2 Games Per Round, 20 Games in Total
You will receive 7/5/3/1 or 7/4/1 scoring on each game based on 4 or 3 player groups
Automatic Tiebreakers will be turned on
Top 24 players make it to the final
Tiebreakers are played immediately after qualifying ends on Saturday night
8th and 24th place will not use the Automatic Tiebreakers. All players tied with the same amount of accumulated points for the 8th and 24th positions will have a 1 GAME tiebreaker to determine who gets a bye and who gets into the final and who doesn’t. This 1 GAME tiebreaker is significant and will result in the final placing for all players who finish 25th or worse in the tournament. Game itself will be chosen by the tournament director and order of play will use the automatic tiebreaker finishing position with the higher seed getting last available order spot. Example: We have 10 players with the same amount of points who finish from 21st-30th in qualifying. They all get to play a 1 GAME tiebreaker. The order of play will be 30th goes first, 29th goes 2nd, 28th goes 3rd, etc. The highest score in the tiebreaker gets 21st seed & moves onto finals, 2nd highest gets 22nd seed & moves on, 3rd highest 23rd seed, 4th highest 24th seed. Then the rest of the group is out of the tournament with their final finishing position being determined by that tiebreaker. 5th highest would be 25th place, 6th highest would be 26th place, etc. all the way to 30th place.
This tiebreaker will also be significant for the 8th place position. Example: we have a 6 way tie for 8th place (8,9,10,11,12,13). Based on this Tiebreaker game the winner would get the 1st round bye, 2nd/3rd/4th/5th would be seeded 9th/10th/11th/12th and get a bank choice in round 1. The person that finished 6th in this example tiebreak would be seeded 13th in the main final.

You cannot ‘sell’ your tournament registration to another person. You need to go through District 82 if you want to attend or cancel your registration for this event. If you cancel your registration by the following dates I will send you back some but not all of your money. Make sure you are able to attend this event before you send payment. The amounts are listed below. Anyone from the waitlist who gets in will still have to abide by the below refund dates so please make sure you want to attend before you send me your money.

Cancel Registration By:
Wednesday February 28th, 2024 6PM CST $240 Refund
Saturday March 16th, 2024 6PM CST $180 Refund
Saturday March 23rd, 2024 6PM CST $120 Refund
Saturday March 30th, 2024 6PM CST $80 Refund
Saturday April 6th, 2024 6PM CST $50 Refund

After April 6th, 2024 No Refunds of any amount. If you participate in only part of the tournaments or can’t continue no refunds or credit to future events will be given either.

How to Cancel

You can unregister by clicking the unregister link on this page (next to the Register/Waitlist Button above) or by sending a detailed email to [email protected]. Both are time and date stamped and I will process your refund in the same manner you paid (Credit Card, Pay Pal, etc.) as soon as I can. This is not an automatic system so I personally need to process any refunds. It may take a couple days if I’m not in town when you cancel.
If the coronavirus or some other disease numbers go crazy (crazy is relative to every person individually) but I am still legally allowed to hold these tournaments, then the tournaments will go on as planned and no refunds will be issued.

If Event is Cancelled/Snow Storm

If the entire event is cancelled for any reason then a full refund will be issued to everyone. I would base any weather related cancellation or delays on the weather in Green Bay, WI. If I delay the start of a day I may make up that time by limiting breaks, etc. Please save the email address [email protected] and [email protected] in your contacts folder so email updates don’t go to spam folder. District 82 is not responsible for any other costs you may have incurred like lodging, car rental, or airfare for this event.

Video Recording and Photography

By participating in this and any event at District 82 you agree to have yourself video recorded and also photographs to be taken. These will be used to record the event and for promotion of future events.
